About this test

This test follows the four areas of Daniel Goleman's model of emotional intelligence: self-awareness (knowing what you feel and why), self-management (handling those feelings), social awareness (reading other people) and relationship management (getting along, influencing and resolving conflict).

The statements were written for cv.cm. It is a self-report check, not the licensed EQ-i or MSCEIT, and a self-report shows how you see yourself. Each area is scored from 0 to 100: below 40 is low, above 60 high. Unlike IQ, these are skills, and they improve with practice.

FAQ

What is a good EQ score?

There is no pass mark here. A score above 60 in an area means you see that skill as a strength; below 40 marks the area most worth practising. Look at the balance between the four areas rather than one number.

Can you improve emotional intelligence?

Yes. Naming your feelings, pausing before you react, asking people how they see a situation and listening without planning your answer are skills that grow with practice.

Is EQ more important than IQ?

They measure different things. IQ tests reasoning; EQ is about handling emotions and people. Both matter, and EQ matters most in work that depends on teamwork, leadership and service.

How accurate is a self-report EQ test?

It shows how you see yourself, which can differ from how others see you. For a fuller picture, ask a few people who know you well to answer the questions about you.
