How do I test my microphone?
Press Start microphone and allow access. Speak: the meter and waveform should move. Record 5 seconds and play it back to hear how you sound.
The meter does not move. What now?
Pick another device in the list, check that the microphone is not muted (some headsets have a switch), and close other apps that use it. On a laptop, check the system's input volume.
What is a good level?
Speech peaks around −20 to −6 dBFS are good. Near 0 dBFS the sound clips; below −20 it is quiet.
Is my voice uploaded?
No. The audio and the test recording stay in this tab and are gone when you close it.
Why does the browser ask for permission?
Browsers only give a page the microphone after you allow it. You can take the permission back in the site settings at any time.
