How does the AI music generator work?
MusicVAE, an open model from Google's Magenta project, writes 4 bars of melody, bass and drums at a time; longer pieces morph from one idea to another. The page then plays the notes with its own synthesizers.
Can I use the music in videos or commercially?
Yes. Every piece is newly generated, the model is Apache-2.0, and nothing is sampled from existing songs. Use it in videos, games, podcasts or products, no credit needed.
Does it make songs with vocals?
No. It makes instrumental music: a lead melody, a bass line and drums. Download the MIDI file to play the same notes with other instruments in GarageBand, FL Studio or any DAW.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The model downloads once (about 18 MB) and runs in this tab; the audio is rendered in the browser too.
How do I get music I like?
Generate a few times and keep the one you like, then press More like this for variations of it. Calm keeps the music simple and repetitive; Wild tries bolder ideas.
