How to trim audio / cut an MP3

You need a clip, not the whole file: a ring, a quote, a voicemail. You will mark start and end in this tab, listen, and download WAV. The original stays on disk.

  1. Know the start and end you want

    A ringtone is often 20–40 seconds. A quote is one sentence. Write the times down if the file is long.

  3. Drop the MP3, WAV, or M4A

    If nothing plays, the codec may be unsupported. Try WAV or another browser.

  4. Set start and end, then listen

    Play the selection in the page. If the first word is clipped, nudge start earlier. If a breath hangs at the end, pull end in.

  5. Download WAV

    The export is WAV even if you started from MP3. If a form insists on MP3, convert the WAV afterwards. Keep the original.

  6. Play the downloaded file once

    Do not send on the in-page preview alone. If the start is late or the end is early, trim again.

The cutter re-encodes the selection as WAV in the browser. If you need MP3, convert the WAV afterwards.

If the browser can decode the file, yes. If playback fails, export WAV from the recorder first.

Is the audio uploaded?

No. Closing the tab discards it.

Will this change the original file?

No. You download a new WAV. The MP3 on disk stays.
