How to convert JPG to PNG

JPG is already lossy. PNG will not restore detail and will not invent transparency. You convert when a tool or form wants PNG, or before you crop the same photo many times.

Today's result A PNG that the destination accepts, still opaque, usually larger than the JPG, with the original still on disk.

    A form or an editor may insist on PNG. Do not convert to 'add transparency' — a JPG has no alpha to keep.
